Constantinople, the Capital City of the Byzantine Empire, it was also known as the Holy City to Orthodox Christians. On the 29th of May 1453, the Ottoman Empire invaded Constantinople, they invaded the city killing many Orthodox Christians, many Soldiers of Constantinople including the Byzantine Emperor Constantine XI Palaiologos were killed during the battle. The Turks renamed the city to Istanbul and they disrespected the Holy Orthodox Cathedral of Agia Sophia by turning it into a Mosque and then a museum. To this day, Greeks visit the grand Cathedral and remember its glory during the Constantinople days. We do not recognise the city as "Istanbul", we recognise it by its REAL name, CONSTANTINOPLE!
