http://www.longplays.org Played by: MadMatty NARC, Arcade conversion by The Sales Curve and published by Ocean Software in 1990 "The arcade action thriller with the BIG finish. Infiltrate the criminal underworld - your mission is to seek out and destroy the king pin of the MR BIG CORPORATION - if you get that far. You'll have to outwit his enormous army of body guards gangs of charisma, bypass patients in trench coats, the bullet brain with the build of a rhinoceros and the breath of a dung beetle, packs of vicious canine yappies, the psychotic clown with an evil sense of humor - you'll die, but not laughing! Then there is the gas guzzling Cadillac jock - a cool specimen, elbow hanging on the door rail, a serious looking piece in his hand and ready to blow you away as he rolls down main street leaving you coughing lead. It's not all bad!... You've got a chopper to back you up, a mean, shiny street machine, some heavy metal hardware and some pretty neat moves. And what about the king pin... did I say he was Mr. Big? No, he's MR BIG!" Well that was some light reading on the back of the box, sure to get you pumped for the game and take to the counter for purchase without a second thought. The conversion is based on the original arcade game by Williams. A side scrolling shooter. Just shoot everyone to you reach the end of the game! There is a bit more to it than that. The real story is that OCP has bought up the right to the running man and Smash TV. In this new gameshow you put on your Armored suit and are sent out to clean up the street of New Detroit. Just like with smash tv, you will be constantly picking up money, drugs and ammo dropped by the bad guys that are trying to stop your. At the end of each level you receive a huge cash reward and sent on your way to a rougher area. Should you be so good that you complete the mission, you will get to enter the pleasure dome (erm..vault) and collect the spoils in the form of gold bars. There is never a shortage of bad guys to deal with so tune in next week for more! The C64 conversion is not that great when compared against the other conversions. The scrolling backgrounds are ok, but the sprites are all stretch 2x1 low detailed pixel anomalies. The scrolling is fast making each level quite short. Enemies will be constantly entering the screen from both sides so if you don't deal with em quick the screen can fill up quickly and overwhelm you. You start off with a rapid fire weapon and are required to keep toping it up with dropped ammo else you'll drop to a single slow firing pistol which can be problematic. By holding fire, you can fire a high explosive rocket to wipe out a group quickly but be sure to save a few for the end! Lives are few in the beginning so ideally you should get through as quick as possible. you can choose to shoot your enemies for item drops or try to Bust them for score which helps to unlock extra lives. Once a few lives have been collected, this is the time to farm as much ammo, rockets, score as you can before moving on. You should get most of the lives back during the bonus tallying sequence. The most annoying enemy is the dog. The controls can get in the way here as you need to crouch by holding fore for a second and pulling down which annoying lets of the rocket as well. You can also push up to jump. Thankfully the dogs only appear once in the whole game. In this longplay I did waste some rockets destroying the lab (as requested in mission briefing) but it didn't seem to count towards score so don't bother with that. Do try to save the women later on though as well as destroying all the drug plants for score. Another annoying enemy is the killer clown which like to surround and stab you. They move fast and if you don't have rapid fire ammo, you will have problems. Overall, the C64 conversion seems a little rushed and unfinished. It can be difficult but its score, lives system can keep you in the game if you rush early on but farm later. There is only one piece of music for the whole game and it gets annoying after a while as it loops so I do switch to SFX mid way into he game. 00:00:00 Titles 00:01:48 Game - Disclaimer: Most videos by World of Longplays use SaveStates!
