Research paper rejection is a common challenge faced by scholars and researchers. But guess what? Peer reviewers are not to blame! While they play a crucial role in manuscript evaluation, they can only provide recommendations—not make the final decision. The acceptance or rejection of a research paper is ultimately determined by the journal’s chief editor or editorial board. Video transcript: Who decides the fate of your manuscript? Well, it's not the peer reviewers, but they do have a factor in the decision because they make their recommendations to the editors. So again, peer reviewers do not make the decisions, but they can recommend a decision. And at peer reviewed journals, the decision making authority rests solely with the journal's editors or the journal's editorial board and, ultimately, with the editor in chief. I've recommended some papers for acceptance, even after multiple rounds of review, only to have them rejected by the editor in chief. So, but thankfully that's only happened like once or twice. And in the thousand papers I handled, it feels bad when I have to make that decision. But normally when a journal sends out your paper for peer review, that means it's passed all the prechecks. It wasn't desk rejected. And, it's worthy of after peer review, it should be worthy of of publication. And if you have to make a decision after re review and it's not a rejection after peer review, that means that that your your paper can theoretically be accepted at that journal. We're not gonna invest a lot of time in peer review if we don't feel like, you can publish the paper with us. Otherwise, we would reject it, you know, even after review.
