NEPAL GEN Z PROTESTS First up, to Nepal where there have been violent clashes between police, the army, and young people, in what's being dubbed the 'Gen Z' protests. If you're on TikTok, you may have seen videos like this pop up on your FYP this week, showing protests in Nepal. The protests have been dubbed the Gen Z protests because they were started by, well, Gen Z activists. They began on Monday, sparked by a government ban on social media that would block platforms like Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube and Instagram. But tensions in Nepal had been building for a long time, with many people already upset with things like government corruption, and censorship. During the protests, cars and buildings, including Nepal's parliament, were set on fire, and more than 13,000 inmates have escaped from prison. At least 30 people have died, and Nepal's Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli was forced to resign. The social media ban has since been reversed, and Nepal's army has taken control of Kathmandu. Today, things are little less intense than they have been. Some essential services have re-opened, but schools are still closed. Here in Australia, Nepalese communities have been gathering to support those protesting in Nepal and to hold vigils for those who have died. Now, there are ongoing discussions, between organisers of the protests, and Nepal's army as they try to find and appoint an interim leader to run the country, and work out a path forward. RICHEST MAN Elon Musk briefly lost his title as the world's richest person to a man called Larry Ellison. Ellison, is an American Tech entrepreneur who co-founded an IT company called 'Oracle'. He surged to top spot after making a record 150 billion dollar in under an hour, the biggest one-day jump in wealth ever. Giving him a total net worth of 593 billion dollars. Experts say the spike was thanks to increased demand for cloud computing by AI companies, but Ellison's time in pole position was short lived after long time number one Elon Musk regained his position by 1.5 billion dollars. CLONE WEBSITES Online shopping scams are becoming more and more common in Australia, and experts are warning people to keep an eye out for them! Have you ever come across a website that looks legit, but there's just something fishy about it? Well chances are it was a clone website! They're fake scam websites which pretend to be real ones. They often appear in search engine results and ads and can look really similar to real brands, which is why a lot of Aussies are falling victim to them. SANDWICH First up to Peru where a pork sandwich locals call a Pan con Chicharrón has been voted as the breakfast food that'll represent their country at the World Breakfast Championships! It's a big online competition, hosted by a Spanish streamer, pitting the favourite brekkies of 16 countries against each other. The Mayor of Lima organised a big Pan con Chicharrón cook-up, serving 500 portions of free sandwich to encourage people to vote. MACAQUES Now to China, where a group of wild-tailed macaques were captured on trail cam, a pretty rare sight, and even rarer to see one attempt to eat the camera. ZOO ANTEATER And finally to a zoo in Germany which has just welcomed this giant anteater cub into the world! For now, zookeepers haven't yet worked out if it's a boy or a girl, they're just giving it some time alone with mum first. Giant anteaters are also classified as Vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List, so the zoo is pretty wrapped with this baby's arrival. __________________________________________ Subscribe https://www.youtube.com/behindthenews...
