The last 50 years have brought significant advances in molecular biology, engineering, and medicine. Over the years, scientists have worked to improve and expand this molecular toolbox. This video introduces molecular cloning, starting with a review of the key concepts. Specifically, what is a molecular clone? And what is a cloning vector? IN THIS VIDEO: 00:00 00:29 Background to molecular cloning 01:00 What is a molecular clone? 01:48 What is a DNA Plasmid? 04:29 Model organisms INSTRUCTOR: JULIA GEORGE-RAIZEN Julia George-Raizen received from the University of Michigan in 1991 in what would now be called Molecular Immunology. She has done post-doctoral work and later research using mice, cell lines, yeast, and C. elegans. Julia has a front-row seat to the development and evolution of all current molecular biology techniques, from PCR to CRISPR, and taught at several universities in the Philadelphia area, including St. Joseph's University and Bryn Mawr College. She now works as a consultant in science communication and education.
