For over a year now, Michigan's 35th District State Senate seat has been vacant. The 35th District covers most of the collective area of Midland, Bay, and Saginaw Counties (see list of included municipalities of Midland County below). All totaled, the District includes approximately 270,000 residents. The seat was vacated when then-35th District Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet successfully ran for the U.S. House. It’s time to fill that seat. The Special Primary election for that purpose is set for Tuesday, February 3, with the General Election to follow on Tuesday, May 5. Not sure where to vote? The Michigan Department of State offers a webpage to easily look up voting locations and ballot information. Voters on the permanent absentee voter list should have already received their ballot in the mail. Please note that early in-person voting is not available in Midland County for the February 3 Special Primary election. Here is a list of the Midland County municipalities that lie within the 35th Senate District. Only voters residing in these municipalities are eligible to vote in this special election: City of Midland Midland Township Mt. Haley Township Larkin Township Lincoln Township Ingersoll Township Homer Township Don’t have much time to research the candidates? We’ve got you covered. The Midland Business Alliance partnered with the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce to conduct short, recorded interviews with each candidate, allowing voters to hear directly from those seeking to represent the 35th District. The interviews are available in one continuous video, with the following time codes to help viewers easily navigate to each candidate’s segment: Christian Velasquez – begins at 0:08 Dr. Pamela Pugh – begins at 15:18 Jason Tunney – begins at 30:54 Chedrick Greene – begins at 44:33 Serenity Hope Salak – begins at 58:22 Dr. William Morrone – begins at 1:13:17 “Our interviews give the business community a much-needed opportunity to understand how each candidate approaches economic opportunity and growth,” said Tony Stamas, President & CEO of the Midland Business Alliance. “Providing these easy-to-access interviews reinforces the importance of informed decision-making, especially for this 35th State Senate special primary, where turnout will be critical,” added Eugene Seals Jr., President & CEO of the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce. Magen Samyn, President & CEO of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, also emphasized the value of the collaboration, noting, “We’re fortunate to have a broad field of candidates for the 35th State Senate seat. However, that broad field means voters really need to do their research to determine which candidate best aligns with their priorities. For our members, whose priorities include a healthy business climate, these interviews provide an easy, streamlined way to get the information they need.”
