The general consensus is that 2024 was one of, if not the best, WaveJams in the event’s 10 year history. SOME FACTS ABOUT WAVEJAM 1. It’s been running for 10 years. Started in 2015 (where as I recall maybe 3 people showed up). Stoked that we are still doing this 10 years later. 2. It’s about cooperation, not competition. Competition requires judges, permits, and is usually run in a limited window period. Our event is more like organised chaos. 3. This year we had 20 windsurfable days out of 30. That includes 2 life threatening days (Typhoon Usagi), where we should just have stayed at home. Might have been the windiest month in WaveJam history. 4. We had 24 windsurfing participants and 2 kiters from 14 countries. USA (Jonathan Rudich, Brendan Bates, Peter Brown, Dan Sorkowitz) Japan (Taiga Matsumoto, Shoko Saito, 市川聖士) Taiwan (曾映皓, Sega Huang, Harris Pan, Wan Pin Juan, Bk Yeh, Zen Hom Lee) UK (Dave Archer), Holland (Ties), France (Arnaud Guerbet) South Africa (Mark Jackson) Norway (Magnus Pedersen) Canada (Stephane Asselin) Belgium (Jeroen Allaert) New Zealand (Max Meffan) Singapore (Boo Chew Kuan) Philippines (Teb Leung) and Austria (Walter Meissl). 5. We sailed 4 spots: Dulan, The Reef, Donghe and One Eye. Seems like this year One Eye was everyone’s favorite. 6. We trashed 4 sails and lost 2. Yes lost, forever, at the bottom of Dulan Bay. Courtesy of Typhoon Usagi. 7. We had 4 scary moments during the Jam, but 2 of those had nothing to do with windsurfing. Taiga’s car accident in Jinzun. Taiga getting hit by a scooter while crossing the street. Jonathan disappearing during Typhoon Usagi. Pete Brown going out at One Eye without an uphaul rope, and returning via coast guard boat. 8. 4272 photos were shot during the event, all by the wonderful Yong-yi who deserves her own party. Thank you Yong-yi! 9. The phrase ‘MUCH HONOR” was used 768 times over the course of the event, to describe: Good waves, big wipeouts, loss/damage of property, successes, failures. It became the event slogan. 10. Hope to see you all next year. MUCH HONOR!
