Tyrconnell Single Malt | Irish Whiskey REVIEW

The Tyrconnell Single Malt Whiskey is a long-standing brand which has been around for a long time. However, it was recently enough rebranded and the ABV of the whiskey was lifted to 43%, which does set it apart from a lot of the classic Irish whiskey brands. It's a double-distilled single malt coming from the Cooley Distillery, and was aged exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels. It doesn't have an age-statement, but it does feel a bit older than the three year minimum. While Tyrconnell do have some more "up-market" offerings which have different wine finishes, this is their entry-level whiskey, which does come in at a very reasonable price, especially if (like me), you can find a 1 litre bottle on sale at an airport! Tyrconnell Single Malt Irish Whiskey Tasting Notes: Nose: There are some of the distinctive Cooley orchard fruits hiding behind a nice base of vanilla, caramel, sweet grains and a touch of citrus. Overall, it's soft and sweet on the nose, like a lemon drizzle cake. Palate: The palate is immediately honeyed, with more caramel and lemon, accented by a nice dose of malted grains. It's almost a little fudgey, with some oak and almond notes accenting the sweet malt. Finish: The finish is light and relatively short, with the honey and malt fading quickly, leaving a touch of oak char which fades in turn. Ultimately, this is a solid little whiskey, it's not expensive, but not mind-blowing, it's not at a high proof, but it's also not bland, it's nicely balanced and a whiskey you can easily go back to again and again without feeling guilty. ------------------------------------------------------- I'm a total whiskey nerd and this channel is all about Whiskey, Whisky, Bourbon, Rye, Pot Still Whiskey and Single Malt Whiskey.
