Amazon Affiliate Link: https://amzn.to/4aEDDYD Price as reviewed: $269 MEIJIA Portable Waterproof Protective Case,Hard Camera Case With Retractable Pull Handle And Rolling Wheels,Customizable Fit Foam Inserted,Elegant Black, 31.57"X20.47"X12.44" [NOTE: This case looks EXACTLY like the Harbor Freight Apache 5800 hard case which costs $99 on their website.] This is a generic "1650" case. If you want it to withstand shipping, you should probably pay extra for a Pellican branded one. It has a pull out handle on the back which can latch in the in or out position (the entire handle assembly is screwed onto the back of the case, so you could also remove it if needed) which makes wheeling the case around easy. The two wheel assemblies on the bottom can also be unscrewed. It has fold out handles on 3 sides (omitting the hinge side) so you can carry it two handed from each end, or one handed from the middle side. The lid securely latches down with 7 clamp style latches (3 opposite the hinge, 2 on each of the the top and bottom). It also has two steel reinforced padlock holes that can be used to secure the lid closed. I found that the 7 latches were annoying because although they look like they are designed to slide out of the way of the closing lid, they do not, and at least one, and possibly many of them will get "caught" as you close the lid, and you need to go around and manually release them until you can get the lid to go all the way down. Once they are latched, the ridge around the bottom of the case latches securely into the rubber gasket inside the lid, and the joint appears to be water tight. There is also a screw in knob with an o-ring that allows you to release pressure from inside the case. As soon as I dropped the case into the lake to test the waterproof seal, I found a crack on the back of the case that let in water. (The gasket/seal around the lid LOOKS like it should be water tight, but I couldn't test it due to the water that got in via the crack on the back of the case.). I didn't notice the crack until after I had thrown it into the lake, and there was some damage to the cardboard outer box when it arrived, so I believe the crack occurred in shipping, but it might have happened when I rolled the case off my dock into the lake. In either case, my opinion is that an airport baggage handler would treat the case harder than UPS or myself, so I would not trust this case plastic to survive commercial air flight or shipping without cracking. The case comes with 2 thick layers of pick and place foam, plus a thinner layer of eggshell foam in the lid and a layer below the pick and place on the bottom of the case. I found the pick&place foam to be easy to work with and was able to create a custom shaped cutout for a 8" telescope with less than an hour of work. The foam provides plenty of padding, and as a padded storage case (that is no longer waterproof) it functions well. However, given the brittle nature of the plastic, I'd recommend you pay a little extra for a Pelican case (or buy on of Harbor Freight's plastic cases for less money).
