Topanga Canyon Blvd Los Angeles Episode 42 Topanga Canyon Boulevard (State Route 27) is a state highway in California that runs from the Pacific Coast Highway (California State Route 1) at Topanga State Beach near Pacific Palisades, through the Topanga Canyon in Topanga, and continuing through Woodland Hills, Canoga Park, West Hills, and Chatsworth to the Ronald Reagan Freeway (State Route 118). In this trip we start headed west on US 101 where we exit onto Topanga Blvd in Woodland Hills headed south through Topanga until we hit the Pacific Ocean and then turn north to Malibu. The Topanga area is famous for its great surf, eclectic living, and interesting collection of artists, musicians, and movie stars seeking to get away from the city and live somewhere a little more whimsical. Topanga was once the home of notable personalities that included Bob Denver, Robin Williams, Dennis Hopper, Alice Cooper, Danny Elfman, Marvin Gaye, Neil Young, Jim Morrison, Joni Mitchell, and gangster Henry Hill. Infamously, Charles Manson had previously been living in Topanga, where he had briefly befriended both Neil Young and Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys. Members of the Manson Family began their campaign of murder on July 31, 1969, with the murder of Topanga resident Gary Hinman, a music teacher who had opened his home to anyone needing shelter.
