𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐓𝐄𝐗𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 | What is it? How to apply it, patch it, and how to make repairs to walls with orange peel wall texture. Additional Product Description: https://cubanredneck.com/orange-peel-... Welcome to another DIY Video here at the Cuban Redneck DIY Channel. Today I want to talk to you about 𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄 𝐏𝐄𝐄𝐋 𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐓𝐄𝐗𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄. If your home was built in the 1980s there is a good chance that your walls have orange peel wall texture since, at that time, this wall texturing technique was trendy in new residential construction across the Southwest United States. But especially in Florida! IMO the primary reason for orange peel wall texture is to hide blemishes and irregularities in drywall covered walls. It is especially useful in long hallways where multiple sheets of drywall are required. As with transparent glass blocks, you figured that this fad would have gone away after a decade or so. But like taxes, it is still here! In the 1990s and early 2000s, more elaborate hand textures such as hawk and trowel, Venetian plaster, skip trowel, and knockdown texture became the thing to have! However, orange peel wall texture has proven to be the winner! The construction industry adopted drywall (also known as plasterboard, wallboard, sheetrock, gypsum board, buster board, custard board, or gypsum panel) made of calcium sulfate dihydrate (gypsum), with or without additives as the preferred material for interior wall finish. Drywall allows builders to hire a less skilled workforce, is easy to repair, and lower costs to consumers in many ways. In general, the orange peel wall texture looks pretty good and does a remarkable job of hiding imperfections and faults in craftsmanship. That is until it comes time to patch! If you have an orange peel textured wall and you patch, fix a repair a section, the result will be a very smooth patch, very noticeable to the naked eye. Fixing smooth patches on a wall with orange peel wall texture required skill labor until now! The easiest way to apply orange peel wall texture to drywall patches and repairs is with Homax aerosol spray texture! 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐱 𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐫𝐲𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐱 𝐚𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐥 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞? In the past, the way many people repaired drywall with orange peel texture was with an ordinary 3/8" NAP paint roller to slightly stipple a coating of wet wallboard compound spread across the surface. This technique requires quite a bit of practice. Today we have Homax aerosol spray texture, a product manufactured by PPG specially designed to apply spray texture without a hopper gun or roller. The Homax aerosol spray texture is a canned aerosol product suitable for both DIY and professionals alike. 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐱 𝐚𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐥 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲 texture comes in three flavors and three sizes. Homax 20-oz White Orange Peel Wall Texture Model 4092-06 Water-based aerosol formula Patches orange peel and splatter textures Adjusts to spray fine to heavy orange peel textures Homax 20-oz White Orange Peel Wall Texture Model 4055-06 Ideal for orange peel wall texture repairs Adjust texture pattern by rotating the nozzle Fast-drying, oil-based formula Homax 20-oz White Knockdown Wall Texture Model 4065-06 Water-based aerosol formula Patches knockdown and southwest style textures Adjusts to spray light and heavy knockdown textures All three types come in 10oz, 20oz, and 25oz aerosol can but in my opinion, the 20oz size is the best value for the average DIY project unless you are covering a large area, in which case several 25oz can be more economical. Standing back about 30-36 inches, spray the patched areas first in a circular motion and then spray lightly while wandering outwards, allowing the product to blend into the surrounding area. Allow for dry time (5-7 minutes for oil base, 30-40 minutes for water base), then paint. For the knockdown variety, give it about 3-4 minutes, and with a large putty knife or taping knife, gently smooth the surface with a downward motion. *If this is your first time using plaster compound or painting a house, I strongly suggest a little practicing in a place that is out of the way like the inside of a closet and or a cardboard box! I hope that I was detailed enough with my instruction, and I hope you took something away from this video to help you achieve the orange peel wall texture finish your home requires.
