The Second Blessing Debate: Two Views of Spirit Baptism In classical pentecostalism, the "second blessing" comes when the Baptism of the Spirit occurs. Within this framework this baptism is a subsequent experience following conversion, where the believer is endued with power from on high, evidenced by speaking in tongues. Pentecostals teach that All believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Spirit and fire, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. In mainline denominations and across much of evangelicalism, the "baptism of the Spirit" is a baptism into Christ's body that occurs at the moment of salvation. Though many of the conservative evangelicals believe in the gifts of the Spirit, they do not believe that a secondary experience is necessary to be endued with power for on high. Rather Christ's salvation brought all thing necessary for a life of Godliness Both of these positions are orthodox Christian beliefs, but only one of them is true. Representing the classical pentecostal position of "the second blessing" Pastor Todd Barham will be giving a 15min presentation of why the classical pentecostal view is a biblical-theological view.
