Government House grounds - the Bravery Garden
In the lead up to Remembrance Day, Mrs Hurley and the Government House horticulture team talk about the Bravery Garden. The Bravery Garden was commissioned by Sir William Deane AC KBE, the 22nd Governor-General of Australia, following a trip to Gallipoli. The intention was to create a peaceful spot to remember and honour the service and sacrifice of Australians. The Garden features native plants, the Gallipoli Rose, and, on plinths laid out on the points of the Southern Cross, information about the bravery decorations in the Australian Honours and Awards system. It is used for formal memorial events, presentation of awards recognising bravery and courage and informal moments of reflection.
