First power up of the Ampex VPR-3 VTR - Video broadcast and production equipment of the 1980's

This 40 years old video tape recorder seems to function properly after an overhaul of its air system. This is the first power up at my home. The tape transport uses an air compressor to provide airflow and vacuum for handling the tape - after replacing quite a few air pipes and re-fitting everything back, the machine can properly tension the tape. The control panel LCD shows a normal status, passing al the machine diagnostic tests. Sadly there isn't any video reel at this moment, but soon there will be. The reel in this recording is a data reel, which didn't made sense to play, so I didn't tested the play, rewind and forward functions. (due to a different chemical treatment of data tapes, the video scanner tips might get affected). Stay tuned for the next videos about this great machine.
