You might have heard of palliative care nurse Bronnie Ware and her “Top 5 Regrets of the Dying” — things like wishing you hadn’t worked so hard, or wishing you’d stayed in touch with friends. It’s beautiful, important work that’s helped a lot of people rethink what really matters at the end of life. But when you’re diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, the timeline changes. You don’t just wake up one day on your deathbed looking back. You get a diagnosis… and then you start watching your memories, your words, and your independence slowly slip away. The regrets show up much earlier, and they look completely different. My regrets aren’t about career or money. They’re about conversations I didn’t have. Memories I assumed I’d always be able to remember. Moments I never wrote down because I thought my brain would “always be there.” In this video, I’m sharing my biggest regrets since my Alzheimer’s diagnosis — not to ask for sympathy, but in the hope that you might still have time to make different choices while your mind is clear. If you’re living with Alzheimer’s, caring for someone who is, or you’ve just been diagnosed and you’re scared about what’s coming, I hope this helps you feel a little less alone and a little more prepared. — If this video resonates, you might also want to watch my follow-up on end-of-life planning with Alzheimer’s — the practical steps I’m taking now as an act of love for my family. Thank you for being here with me on this journey. Greg vs. Alzheimer’s: Refusing to Fade Away. Bronnie Ware spent several years caring for dying people in their homes. Her full-length memoir, The Top Five Regrets of the Dying, shares further wisdom from dying people and how Bronnie's own life was transformed through this learning. It is available in 32 languages. http://bronnieware.com/regrets-of-the...
