The Top 30 songs with 4 extras by Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band, Al Jarreau, Lulu and Sneaker from the 1982 singles charts of Billboard and Cash Box magazines for weeks ending Jan. 9, 16, 23 and 30. Unlike for my books, Ranking the ‘60s and Ranking the ‘70s (with Bill Carroll), in which a weighted ranking system was used, I used a simple reverse ranking system, assigning 1 point to No. 30, 2 points to No. 29, etc. I kept it simple since we’re dealing with four weeks rather than a longer duration, like a year. One song was copy-protected so I substituted a cover for it. You will find it ranked at No. 16. *1981 Rank given to the three songs leaving the charts is an average of those songs’ year-end rankings from Joel Whitburn, Fred Bronson, Bill Carroll and Cash Box magazine. (I didn't include Billboard magazine because it ranked these three songs in its 1982 year-end list.) The Thumbnail: Driving across is a 1982 Cadillac Cimarron, its first year for sale in the US. The 5 acts below "Jan. 1982" from left to right: Dan Fogelberg, Olivia Newton-John, Foreigner, Juice Newton and Rod Stewart.
