In the year 1912, production began on a biographical film about Commodore Lee R. Albus called ‘The Commodore’, which was funded and produced by members of the Unity Confederate Society. It was said to have been completed by mid-1913, but was never released due to several speculated reasons, including financial issues and unresolved legal conflicts regarding the rights to the story. It became known as a lost film, and all but the world's most diehard cinephiles don’t realize it exists. Among the items in my grandfather’s box is an actual copy of ‘The Commodore’, though there seem to have been edits made to the film using techniques that wouldn’t have be invented until later. Plus, I don’t know how it happened, but this copy might have partially corrupted a video file or two during its digitization and transfer to my computer. The following are just a few select scenes from that movie.
