Ahsoka takes a seat in the motel of her hotel room in the lower districts. As she gets comfortable on the floor, she tries to block out the sounds around her. The shouting from outside and the sound of drunk patrons in the bar below. All of that is just distractions to her and to be ignored as she begins her meditation. But as she breathes in and out, a flicker of annoyance ripples across her face. At first, she thinks it is because of the sound that doesn't cease. But when she takes another breath and forces herself to calm down, she realizes the anger is coming from within. Something is reaching out to her in the Force. Something dark and angry. The annoyance she felt melts away and is replaced with curiosity as she makes herself sit once more and closes her eyes. When that spark of darkness returns, Ahsoka is ready. Rather than fight it, she reaches out for it, grabbing it and pulling it towards her. Instead of hints, she forces it to reveal its secrets to her and slowly, it does. A memory plays through her mind. Not one of her own, but of her Master. Ahsoka gasps as he sees the fervor in which Anakin interrogates Ventress. While she should be moved with how much her master cares about her, Ahsoka is instead horrified. She can see the anger plain on Anakin’s face as he doesn’t just question the former Sith, but brutalizes her. It is so unlike the easy-going Jedi she knows. And there she senses it. The darkness within. It is like a puzzle piece clicking into place and all Ahsoka can do is gasp out. But before she can fully make sense of it, other visions begin to swirl around her, filling her mind with the past and the future. She watches as the darkness envelops Anakin as he stands atop the fires of Mustafar. He stares at a metallic platform and the darkness closes on him like a cloak. She sees him again in the Jedi Temple, watching as a group of younglings cower as the sound of blaster fire rages around them. She gasps and tries to cover her eyes, but the vision shifts again, this time to show an armored figure standing on the bridge of a Star Destroyer. His entire body is covered in ink-black armor, with a heavy breathing mask and a red lightsaber in his hand. Though she cannot see him, Ahsoka immediately knows who that is. As he turns towards her, Ahsoka’s body jerks awake and gasps. She stares at the ceiling and wonders what all of this means. When she begins to calm herself down, Ahsoka tries to tell herself that they were just bad dreams induced by stress. But deep in her heart, she knows that isn’t the case. That leaves her breaking out in a cold sweat as the realization that there is something deeper going on. Seeing as there is nothing more that she can do to fall back asleep, Ahsoka instead finds her speeder bike and takes off. It isn’t difficult to find her target. She finds Ventress in her favorite bar, nursing a drink in silence even as everyone celebrates around her. When the door opens, she looks up and scowls, but doesn’t turn to face her. Ventress: Haven’t you caused enough trouble here? Ahsoka: Not yet. Sorry about Anakin. I didn’t expect him to act that way. Ventress: Forget it. That was hardly my first scrap with him. Ahsoka: That’s what I wanted to talk about. There was something off about him. Ventress: I’d rather not talk about my defeats. That is, until she hears a few credits sliding across the table. Ahsoka: I can make it worth your while. Enough to pay off your bar tab here. Ventress stares at her, then sets her drink down and jerks her head to a private room. Once they are alone, she takes her seat and begins to detail the fight to her. She explains how Anakin had jumped her after they left. He was convinced that she was the one who attacked Ahsoka. It was only when she revealed that Ventress found some kinship with Ahsoka and how they contacted Barriss that he realized she was innocent. Ahsoka: But what was he like during the fight? Ventress: Angry and sweaty. Like a hormonal teenager. So nothing new really. Ahsoka: He didn’t feel like he was tapping into the Dark Side? Ventress: Hmmm, come to think of it, he did seem a bit more on edge the last time. He was unbalanced and much less in control of himself. I bet if I had my lightsabers, I could have taken him. Ahsoka: That’s what I’m afraid of. That he might be falling to the Dark Side. Ventress: Laughs. You think that this is the first time your master’s done this? Oh, you sweet summer child.
