Students from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine in Cleveland joined with colleagues campus-wide for an interactive session on the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Students from medicine, nursing, social work, law and dental medicine programs gained a working knowledge of the ACA and ways to apply that knowledge to benefit their clients and patients. This 360-degree view included: • "The Big Picture" - Arthur Lavin, associate clinical professor of pediatrics and Cleveland representative of Doctors for America •" Medicaid Expansion: How it Fits" - Loren Anthes, government relations, The MetroHealth System • "The Lay of the Land in Cleveland and Communities Like Yours" - Sarah Hackenbracht, exeutive director, Cuyahoga Health Access Partnership • "Young Invincibles & the ACA" - David Bransfield, state outreach coordinator, Young Invincibles As medical student Torrey Byrd observed: "The ACA is changing the way people access health care. All of us will be responsible in some way for helping people navigate these changes in the health care system. How can we do that if we don't first understand them ourselves?" The panel was offered by students of CWRU's Urban Health Pathway Program and the Family Medicine Interest Group with support provided by CWRU's Weatherhead Institute for Family Medicine and Community Health.
