Another consequence of the COVID pandemic has been an epidemic of drug abuse and opioid deaths. The numbers are up significantly in more than 40 states, even as many addiction treatment centers have been forced to shut their doors. Beth Macy, a veteran reporter on this beat, has written a book called "Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors and the Drug Company That Addicted America." Tackling the opioid crisis was an early pledge of President Trump's. But Macy believes Joe Biden may have a coherent plan to end the suffering, as she explains to Michel Martin.
