Car Sub in Home Theater & homemade JL Audio FATHOM on a BUDGET!

YES YOU CAN HOOK UP CAR SUBS TO HOME THEATER SYSTEMS! People commonly ask me... Can you hook up a car stereo subwoofer to a home theater system? I’ve been tinkering with speakers and subwoofers since my high school days back in 1990 and been hooking up car subs to home stereos ever since, from old Rockford Fosgate PUNCH & Series 1 Subs, flea market & weird pawn shop woofers, Kicker, Alpine, and about every commercial car subwoofer put out since the 90’s! From 8” speakers, to 18” subs, I’ve played with hundreds of them and enjoyed many of them in my home theater, garage stereo setup and in my cars over the years. I guess you can consider me to be a bass head for life! So, YES, it's not a big deal... Hook up a sub and play around with it. Being an audiophile does not mean you have to abide by typical audiophile opinions and standards... You can create what your ears LOVE to hear and that's what being a true audiophile is all about. On a side note I did not cover in the video, for those of you that are on a super low budget or just want to tinker with bass, you can also hook up subwoofers to the basic left and right channels of a standard home stereo receiver without using a separate independent amplifier for the subs. In my garage, I had a single 3 ohm JL Audio 13W7 hooked up to the left channel and single small full range speaker hooked up to the right channel of my old thrift store ONKYO home theater receiver. Of course this was not ideal for the proper “stereo” sound, but it was fun to listen to while I was washing cars and tinkering in the garage. Bass was KILLER... CLEAN smooth lows and it was fun to crank up EDM music! And NO, the receiver did not die… it just cut off (went into protect mode) a few times, if I turned the volume up too high, due to the low 3 ohm load on the sub side... So I just powered off/on the receiver and it kept on going as usual. So ideally, you would want to hook up something more like... a sub and a higher full range speaker to the left side, and do the same to the right side of the receiver to enjoy some proper stereo music with sub bass.
