CMH Lighting Option for Cannabis Production Professor DeBacco Increase in Popularity The use of Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH) and Light Emitting Ceramic (LEC) grow light are increasing in usage in both commercial and hobby grower settings. These lights are typically 10% (or greater) energy efficient and provide the same PAR/watt as traditional MH & HPS grow lights with less heat. Spectrum and Wattages CMH and LEC lights emit the traditional PAR measured spectrum in addition to infrared and UV spectrums. This full spectrum can also make visual plant diagnosis easier for growers due to their high color rendering index (CRI) The most common CMH grow lights are the 315 Watt Grow Lights and the 630 Watt Grow Lights. 315 and 630 Wattage Options CMH and LEC grow lights are commonly used on the 315watt and 630 watt designs. Recommended coverage area for each is as follows… 315 watt 4' x 4' veg room 3' x 3' flowering room 630 watt 5’ x 5' veg room 4’ x 4' flowering room CMH Bulbs Quality CMH bulbs will last for 20,000 hours and still retain 80% or more of their initial output. In addition more specific spectrum options are being offered by manufacturers simply due to the increase in popularity of the ballasts to allow growers to simply change bulbs and not fixtures as their plants progress through the growing cycle.
