(29 Dec 1995) Natural Sound The international Implementation Force, IFOR, has taken up its positions along the separation lines of Sarajevo. In accordance with the Dayton peace deal, both the Bosnian army and Bosnian Serb forces have withdrawn their troops after almost four years on the frontlines. The Bosnian capital is to be reunified under the rule of the Muslim-Croat federation. The Sarajevo suburb of Vogosca, a Serb stronghold, is amongst the positions vacated and taken over by IFOR troops. IFOR troops are highly visible on the streets of Vogosca suburb, in an effort to reassure Sarajevo's Serb population. But as in many of the Serb-held suburbs to revert to government rule, the people of Vogosca are packing their things, ready to leave. Most feel the IFOR troops will be unable to protect them when Sarajevo comes under control of the Bosnian-Croat Federation. A request by Serbs for a delay in the handover process to help build bridges doesn't look like succeeding. Bosnian President Izetbegovic has already made it clear he won't tolerate any hold ups. And unless IFOR can build-up more trust, it seems likely the exodus of Serbs from Sarajevo will continue.
