Rákóczi March Hector Berlioz (1803-1869) arr. George Baker, after Liszt/Horowitz Hector Berlioz included the "Hungarian March," associated with Francis Rákóczi II, in "La Damnation De Faust," which he wrote in 1846. Among the arrangements Franz Liszt made of this theme was his Hungarian Rhapsody No. 15 in A minor, which was further embellished by the great pianist Vladimir Horowitz. Horowitz's dazzling arrangement was featured in slightly different versions on his Carnegie Hall recitals of January 17 and February 21, 1949 and later recorded on an LP of encores. George Baker used Horowitz's LP recording as the basis of his transcription performed here. C.B. Fisk and Rosales Organ Builders have collaborated on just one instrument, a monumental organ in French Symphonic style for Rice University, designed in collaboration with then Professor of Organ Clyde Holloway. Installation was completed during 1996-97 in Edythe Bates Old Recital Hall at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music. Since 2012 Professor of Organ Ken Cowan has headed the organ performance program at Rice, where this landmark instrument is in continuous use for study and performance.
