In this video, I’m staying at my friend Brian’s off-grid property and getting a real taste of off-grid living in the backcountry. Brian also runs the YouTube channel Off-Grid Backcountry Adventures, and he’s showing what daily life looks like when you’re living remote and off the grid. I’m also joined by my friend Nat Moran, and together we head into town to fuel up the truck, run supply errands, and experience what it’s really like managing off-grid homestead life when basic needs require planning, fuel, and long drives. Later, we slow things down and enjoy the simple side of off-grid living — hanging around the campfire, sharing dinner, and spending quality time with friends in the wilderness. This is the side of homesteading that doesn’t always get shown… the community, the conversations, and the quiet moments. Then things get interesting. Nat Moran and I take a long drive down remote country backroads to check out a dilapidated off-grid property with an old homestead house that needs a full remodel. The structure is rough, the work required is massive, and the question becomes very real: 👉 Would this make a good off-grid homestead… or am I crazy to even consider buying it? I’m seriously weighing the pros and cons of buying cheap rural land, taking on a fixer-upper homestead, and committing to the hard work that comes with off-grid property ownership. I want your honest opinion — is this a smart long-term investment, or a money pit waiting to happen?
