March 07, 2026 | Saturday In honor and memory of SANDY STEERS, the biologist, founder and executive director of Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV): today's Highlights Summary at Jackie & Shadow's nest as captured by the camera operators of FOBBV (Friends of Big Bear Valley.org): Shadow was wind-blown at 12:24PM, and Jackie was wind-blown at 13:05PM - both while brooding the eggs. The interesting observation is their resilience despite the windstorm that almost blew them both out of the nest. Big "Thank You" to our sharp friends who caught these moments when the windstorm almost blew Shadow and Jackie out of the nest while they were brooding their eggs. What I have observed and learned from these two: (1) they reposition to diffuse the strength of the wind; (2) they hunker down or self-abase to the bowl; (3) they stay focused in protecting their eggs; and (4) they endure the passing gusts of wind.
