Exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) is a serious health hazard, with tighter controls to protect people working with crystalline silica substances (CSS) coming into effect from 1 September 2024. The introduction of the new regulations is a result of the risk imposed from exposure to RCS. This informative webinar presented by SafeWork SA will provide answers to the questions we frequently receive on how the new regulations apply to the workplace within the mining and construction industry. The audits will measure compliance against Chapter 8A of the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2012. Non-compliance matters will be managed via statutory notices. With the new CSS regulations in effect, SafeWork SA’s Construction team will also prioritise CSS-related notifications, requiring worksite visits and audits of safe work method statements (SWMS).
