The Free Syrian Army announced in a Statement that is attacking Syrian Army positions to liberate the southern area controlled by the Syrian government and to advance towards Damascus, and to break the siege on Darayya. Darayya is a Syrian city administratively belonging to Rif Dimashq. It has been one of the oldest cities in Syria, known for being the place where Paul the Apostle had his conversion (30s AD), "on Damascus road" According to the Free Syrian Army that After fierce clashes which are still going on, the rebels were able to advance and take over large areas in the Eastern area close to Kafrsousseh. Among them many strategic spots that the Syrian government used to launch its operations against Western Al Ghouta, in addition to a large number of buildings in the Southern area close to Sahnaya. Darayya has seen heavy fighting during the Syrian Civil War. The city was an early hotspot for anti-government protests. The city fell to anti-government militants from the Al-Qaeda-affiliated group Jabhat al-Nusra and some point in the first half of 2012, and was re-captured twice by the Syrian army and other pro-government forces: first at in the end of August 2012, often refered to as the Darayya massacre, and a second time on 4 January 2013. However, as of summer 2013 fighting continued in the city with most of the municipality controlled by anti-government forces.
