Two women, one carrying a baby, were assaulted in Dombivli, Thane district, allegedly for saying “excuse me” instead of speaking in Marathi. A video of the incident went viral, prompting a police investigation. According to police, the altercation occurred when the women, both residents of the same housing society, were entering the premises on a bike. One of them said “excuse me” to a youth blocking their path, who reportedly took offense and demanded they speak in Marathi. The man, also a resident of the same society, allegedly twisted the arm of the woman riding pillion. The situation escalated when more people joined in, and the women were reportedly beaten.
