Welcome to Burning Questions. This video series is dedicated to exploring the tough questions and comments from educators and district administrators about testing, data, and the STAMP (STAndards-based Measurement of Proficiency) test. Carl Falsgraf, Co-Founder of Avant Assessment is joined by Victor Santos, Director of Assessment and Research at Avant Assessment to answer some of the Burning Questions we receive. Educators want to help their students be prepared for tests, whether they are necessary standardized exams or tests like the STAMP Test. This is a great question that actually begs a separate question - Should an educator be teaching to the test? At the end of the day, it comes down to ensuring that what is being taught is a good use of both the students' and the teachers' time. For example, only focusing your teaching around sample items from tests not only affects the accuracy of the exams, but it’s also not productive, because the students aren’t learning anything new. So, when the team designed STAMP, it was designed for teachers to be able to teach to the test while simultaneously allowing students to develop real proficiency through the lesson plans. Teachers can also encourage students to take a sample test of the specific language on Avant’s website to help with test anxiety.
