May is a tribute to the late Maton Founder, Bill May. Designed and built to show the artisan skills of Andy Allen and to pay tribute to Bill May, the original and master luthier of Maton. This guitar is a true work of art with tones to match. Immaculate workmanship and incredible sounds emanate from the W.A May guitar. Bills signature 3 layered deco style headstock sits atop this model proudly as it did on Bills very first Maton guitar (still in the Maton Museum 70 years on). The W A May Features a Solid AAA Sitka Spruce Top with highly figured Fiddleback Blackwood back and sides. A stunning and so often favoured combination of timber that is truly symbolic of Maton’s Australian heritage. The "AAA" grade Blackwood is intensely figured. It has a warm, full tone with a particularly pleasing mid frequency response and has become a world renowned and sort after tone wood. The Sitka Spruce top delivers clarity and definition whilst maintaining the warmth and overtones of the lows and mids. This timber combination has come to define the Maton tone, one that is balanced and rich and extremely usable in a live situation. On board AP5 Pro pickup system delivers the ultimate pickup system utilising both a piezo transducer under the bridge in combination with a condenser mic located inside the sound hole. You can isolate or blend both systems to deliver every nuance of your playing to a live audience. On board tonal controls allow further tonal refinement. Hiscox flight case included.
