In #Haryana’s villages, the tradition of smoking #hookah, a device used to smoke tobacco, is one of many ways in which #caste discrimination is practiced. The communal activity of smoking hookah has always been practised within a caste group, barring those from another caste to participate. Residents of Kumbha and Sisar villages of Haryana’s Hisar district explained how caste decides who can smoke with whom. Brahmins do not smoke with any other community, while Jats usually share their hookah with some backward castes but they don't smoke with Schedule Castes. Within the SC community, the Chamar community does not allow Balmikis and Dhanak to smoke with them. #Caste #Haryana #panchayat #hookah #casteism About Article 14: In 2.5 years of delivering journalism and research focused on justice, the Constitution and the operation of democracy, we at Article 14 have kept our content ad-free and intend to keep it that way.
