Kyle, from Uitspankraal, explains the seasonal flooding of the Doring River that often results in the river being unpassable through from April until late August. You can find him on:   / uitspankraal   Website: https://jaiyenyen.company.site/ Kyle works hard to keep access open on the public road through the Biedou Valley, which passes through his farm and goes broadly from Wupperthal and Clanwilliam to the Tankwa Karoo National Park. The June/July 2023 flooding was unprecedented and out of proportion to the yearly rain season and snow melt from the Cederberg mountains. Flood levels were at least four times the annual average, washing away trees, boulders, and sandbanks and completely covering the opposite bank of the natural river crossing. The repair works will need to wait for the water levels to subside, for big machinery to come in, and for a lot of the sand buildup to be removed before the road can be reopened.
