Accurate and reliable weapon: how the Ukrainian self-propelled gun "Bohdana" works / hromadske

"Compared to domestic, allied developments, "Bohdan" is a Mercedes for us," says gun commander Vyacheslav. Previously, he worked on Soviet installations and has something to compare with. Now, for the second month, his unit has been working on these Ukrainian self-propelled guns. During this time, according to him, despite some "raw" moments, "Bohdan" has proven itself as an accurate cannon - from the second time it hits within 10 meters of the target. "Bohdana" is the first Ukrainian self-propelled artillery installation of NATO caliber - 155 mm. The gun received its baptism of fire in 2022 in the battle for Snake Island, in 2023 the Armed Forces received it as an official weapon, but the improvement of self-propelled guns continues in fact on the battlefield. The military tests it in combat conditions and shares feedback with the factory, which improves the gun with each version. "For example, on this version, the clearance was raised so that it would not cling to stumps like a pancake. It is quite a passable car, the drivers are satisfied that there is an opportunity to work on such models," says battery commander Maxim about one of the latest improvements on the Bogdan 3.0. It also features night vision cameras and a headlight for driving at night, which allows drivers to remain invisible to enemy drones. The wheeled chassis makes the car maneuverable and secures the crew. "She can quickly work out, move, work out again, that is, she is maneuverable. This maneuverability ensures the survival of the calculation. That is, we can sneak up, shoot and quickly knock down from there. If it's a goose, it won't work out so quickly," platoon commander Oleksandr explains the advantages of this version of "Bohdana".
