She had heart failure and was unable to eat, had trouble breathing and was unable to concentrate. Susie came to the Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children's, where she received a Heartwave Left Ventricular Assist Device. She was able to return home to Oregon. Her care is now shared between her home cardiologist and the destination/VAD clinic. The Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children's was the first in the United States to implant an LVAD in a Duchenne patient.
