Mastery: What it is, and what it isn't. A Sufi perspective

This week the topic — “Mastery: what it is and what it isn’t, from a Sufi perspective (with diverse references to the Enneagram of Process)” The word “master” gets used a lot on the various spiritual paths, including in many Sufi and Fourth-Way groups. Unfortunately, it is mostly used with finite, binary connotations. We may see frequent references to “the master and the follower,” or “the master and the slave.” Some Sufi groups reject this meaning in favor of an infinite, unitary meaning. It may be said instead, “I am on the path of mastery of my craft,” or “I am working toward mastering myself.” The latter view is what interests us. What is mastery as an infinite game? What does it mean to work on the mastery of self? How does this change the trajectory of one’s Work? How can the Enneagram help us to find our own path to Mastery?
