In Santa Catarina, the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) is making progress with the works to adapt and widen 73.9 kilometers of the BR-280/SC highway in the north of the state, between São Francisco do Sul and Jaraguá do Sul, one of the state's main transport and transportation highways. With a total budget of around R$1.7 billion, as provided for in the PAC, the project reached a significant milestone in November with the start of paving of the double tunnel in Morro do Vieira. Part of the Guaramirim and Jaraguá do Sul bypass, the tunnel will connect the hill to the Tifa Schubert region, providing a safer and more efficient route for local and long-distance traffic. This progress represents an important step in the project, which seeks to expand the highway's capacity to support the increase in vehicle and cargo traffic. In addition to this tunnel, the project, in lot 2.2, includes the construction of several other Special Works of Art (OAE), such as viaducts, bridges and wildlife crossings. Of these, at least four have already been completed. The widening and bypassing of the highway were planned to improve mobility in the region, known for its intense industrial and agricultural activity. BR-280/SC is a strategic route for the flow of products, connecting companies in the interior to the coast and ports of Santa Catarina. With the new route bypassing urban areas, it is expected that heavy truck traffic will be diverted from city centers, reducing congestion and accidents, which directly benefits the quality of life of residents and the safety of those who use the highway. Progress of works in the three lots The duplication works on BR-280/SC are divided into lots 1 (26% completed), 2.1 (82% completed) and 2.2 (67% completed), and drivers who travel through the region should pay attention to the signs, as in several stretches there are already detours or permanent closures being implemented, in addition to those places where traffic is being redirected due to the works. The interventions on BR-280/SC will impact up to 50 thousand vehicles that travel through the region daily, including residents of the cities of Araquari, Balneário Barra do Sul, Guaramirim, Jaraguá do Sul, Joinville, São Francisco do Sul and Schroeder. The highway connects the region to other states via BRs 101, 116, 158 and 163.
