Short documentary from 1979 about the installation of Joan Miró’s tapestry, “Femme/Woman,” at the National Gallery of Art in their East Wing. Josep Royo, under Miró’s guidance, supervises a team of weavers at a re-purposed flour mill in Tarragona, Spain over a period of years. We see shots of them working on it and then the whole process of rolling it up, packaging it and shipping it to the U.S., followed by scenes of the finished tapestry being installed. Miró (1893-1983) was in his 80s when he worked on this. Also seen in the film are J. Carter Brown, then the director of the National Gallery, and I.M. Pei, the architect of the East Wing. Produced and directed by Robert Pierce.
