When I was young, I used to admire the legendary composer duo Shankar–Jaikishan immensely. I was a hardcore fan. My entire musical world revolved around their compositions. But one day, my friend Vilas Daflapurkar introduced me to the music of O. P. Nayyar sahab, and suddenly, a completely different musical universe opened up for me. I was absolutely spellbound. That moment led me to explore many more great composers like Madan Mohan, Salil Chowdhury, S. D. Burman etc. I was amazed by the vast and rich canvas of Bollywood music. Now, after spending more than 50 years in this industry, I’ve realized one simple truth, there is no growth without listening. We must constantly listen to different kinds of music, genres, and styles. Today, I’m paying tribute to one of my favorite composers, O. P. Nayyar sahab, by performing one of his classics, “Meri Nindon Mein Tum,” on dilruba and accordion. I hope all O. P. Nayyar fans will enjoy this cover.
