A massive forest with lots of history hidden in the overgrown bowls of it all. People settled out here in the early 1700s and abandoned most of the farms at different point in the 1800s. I did a big hike on the otherside of the river after crossing the colonial stone bridge and just proceeded to search for rock walls and cart paths. I did see some signs of either a loggers camp or hunting cabin and just kept moving. This area has been deserted for so long that it is actually very hard to read the landscape history so the stone walls are a big help. Finally I got a good signal on my Fisher F19 and started digging and the target was under some rocks . pull the dirt back and I see silver ! and its a small coin ! whoa ! turns out to be a crime from 1852 and it is only the second one I have ever dug. It has been over ten years since I have found one of these. Finding old coins with a metal detector is always amazing.
