Airdate: July 1, 1967 One of the anthems to “The Summer of Love”, Procol Harum’s psychedelic hit is at #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 today and will climb to #5 in 4 weeks. It will be even more popular in the U.K. this summer where it will peak at #1 for 6 weeks. In 2009 “A Whiter Shade of Pale” was named the #1 “most played song on British radio over the last 75 years”, according to a chart compiled by licensing firm PPL. Our Spotlight dancers today are Don Sanuskar & Judy Gordon, June Strode & Renee (Leonard) Smith, and Rick Baik (sp) & Rita Wolford…from Houston. The DJ Dick Clark mentions at the end is Larry Kane. Larry hosted a Bandstand-like dance show, “The Larry Kane Show”, on KTRK channel 13 in Houston from 1958-1971. The show was so popular in Houston, it was shown in place of “American Bandstand“ for several years and by the end of its run, it was syndicated in several national markets including New York and LA. (Anyone remember “The Larry Kane Show”?)
