If you’ve ever wondered what an Edit Point, Buttoned Ending, Stinger Ending, or a Developmental Arc are, you’re going to love this week’s episode of TAXI TV! We’re going to play examples from a Production Music Library and show you waveforms that should make things crystal clear. You’ll also get the chance to hear some tracks from a successful Music Library. If you’re new to creating music for TV and Film, this could be an extremely enlightening episode. In other words, miss this at your own peril! We’re going to shave months off your learning curve. ⏱️⏱️VIDEO CHAPTERS⏱️⏱️ 0:13 - TAXI CEO Michael Laskow welcomes the audience and explains what will be covered in this episode. 3:16 - Michael explains the first example. 4:13 - Plays a Sports/Rock instrumental track example, "Break Your Limits," and mentions what to look and listen for. 7:11 - A "Stinger" ending is an exclamation point; a "Button" ending is a period. 8:01 - Replays the previous example to show how edit points can be used. 8:30 - Plays another piece of the song and explains how an editor could use it. 9:21 - When you look at a waveform, you can see the sections and edit points 10:06 - Michael plays the intro again; it is not needed and could be left out 12:49 - Editors look at the waveform for sections and edit points. 13:31 - How long are edit points typically? 18:15 - Plays example "Step Aside", it features drums and builds up to a Stinger ending 20:59 - Michael replays the Stinger ending and explains the various ways it could be used. 21:38 - An entire song or cue is rarely used. Editors look for sections. 24:10 - Michael explains the example, "Friends Passion". There are a lot of subtle things happening within the track. It's a positive, Pop/Rock instrumental. There is the A section all the way through. 29:17 - Plays "Friends Passion" 31:16 - Plays "Friends Passion" again 33:16 - This track could be used in TONS of projects. Michael explains that this track is an Editor's dream with 3 or 4 sections within the B section. 34:41 - Are these cues from TAXI members, or are they from a music library sharing from their catalog? 37:19 - Michael rewads track info for the next example he will play. 41:34 - He plays "Back To Basics" and explains there are edit points galore, and it is very useable. 53:21 - The AT2020 microphone is a good, inexpensive mic, but it does not sound cheap! 54:24 - Michael reads the info for the next example, "Future Depths," a dark trailer-style instrumental. 1:00:22 - Plays "Future Depths" 1:02:47 - There is a lot of subtlety, and the track is very well executed. 1:03:25 - Many people have asked if an edit point needs a rest as well. Michael explains. 1:05:42 - Michael talks about the next track, "Histrionics", and explains pickups and how to use them. 1:07:37 - The Developmental arc of the track is obvious in the waveform. 1:09:33 - Plays "Histrionics" 1:13:26 - Michael replays the fast drum turnaround and explains how that can be used. Listen to the 1/8 notes! It keeps the track interesting. 1:15:54 - Editors want to know what they are going to get right away! 1:18:07 - I don't recognize the waveforms.
