Course: ENDOSCOPIC SINUS SURGERY COURSE Module 1: Basic Science and Techniques Topic 3: Basic Techniques of FESS and Approaches to the Sphenoid. Prof. Salil Nair’s talk on the introductory steps in FESS surgery including approaches to the sphenoid sinus. Mr Nair specialises in surgery for chronic sinusitis and rhinitis, tumours of the nose / sinuses and skull base, Lothrop frontal sinus surgical procedures and lacrimal surgery. He collaborates with the neurosurgeons and ophthalmologists on joint complex cases and regularly attends the multidisciplinary Head & Neck meetings at ACH. Mr Nair moved to Auckland in 2011 to help provide specialist sinus and skull base services at Auckland City Hospital and Counties Manukau DHB. He has a higher MD degree and has been appointed to a Senior Lecturer position at the University of Auckland. He did his fellowship training in Adelaide. Originally presented on 11/12/2020 - session 4, as part of the GR-ESS 2020 event, a two day event covering all aspects of endoscopic sinus surgery (day 1 – 11/12/20) and endoscopic skull base surgery (day 2 – 12/12/20). Global Rhinology Network is a registered academic non-profit organisation with a mission to foster surgical training in the field of Rhinology and Skull Base surgery. The concept of the organisation has evolved through an annual international live surgical webcast, 'The LIONESS' ,established by Mr. Ashok Rokade with the strong support of participating surgeons in association with the lauded LION foundation. Prof. Christos Georgalas, Prof. Wilko Grolman, Dr. Robert Vincent, and Mr. John Oates were instrumental to see the LIONESS take-off in 2014 and to reach surgeons from more than 40 countries.
