#palmettostatepark #traveltrailer #texasstateparks #texas #cats #weber #jayco #grilling #dairyqueen Welcome to Palmetto State Park! 270 acres of swampland and marsh fed by sulphur springs, this splendid campground nestled on the banks of the San Marcos River is a first for us which is surprising because we only live about 70 miles away in San Antonio. I’ve been curious about this one. It’s such a shock to the system to see this jungle-like environment right here in South Central Texas! It has a little bit if everything: Swimming, fishing, kayaking and a ton of hiking. This has something for everyone. And of course, not one but TWO Dairy Queen establishments a few minutes away. Heaven on Earth…. Constructed from 1934-1937, the Civilian Conservation Corps did a fantastic job making sure that the buildings and structures didn’t just serve their purposes but lasted many lifetimes. The standout is the Ramjet pump drawing from the springs and built to provide supplemental water to the surrounding marsh and of course the parks namesake Dwarf Palmettos which are seen EVERYWHERE here. This has been their home for at least 10,000 years. Once again, bravo CCC! Also, it doesn’t take much to put Mrs Switchback on high alert….
