How To Run Cable Inside a Wall with Insulation – Magnepull XP1000-LC Magnetic Wire Fishing System

The Magnepull XP1000-LC Magnetic Wire Fishing System makes running cable through walls and hard-to-fish areas easy. To get started, locate the area of the wall that you want to run the cable down and drill an offset hole 3/4-inch in diameter about one inch away from the header. Insert the leader portion of the leader drop magnet into the hole until it makes contact with the insulation in the wall. Once contact has been made, create a pocket for the drop magnet by moving the leader up and down in the insulation. Note that the pocket must be within approximately 1/2-inch of the sheetrock for the retriever to properly couple with the magnet. Once the leader magnet has been inserted into the insulation, attach the cable, pull line or chain to the device. Be sure to leave an adequate loop of cable or pull line to accommodate the height of the wall. Standing in front of the wall, move the handheld retriever unit horizontally across the wall to locate the lead magnet. Once the retriever unit passes over the magnet, it will become magnetically attached to the magnet and will suspend itself from the wall. Once it is attached, move the retriever unit in short left and right movements to correctly couple the magnet. Pull the cable down through the wall using quick, downward strokes of the retriever unit until you reach the desired outlet location. Retrieve the magnet and pull the cable or lead wire through the wall by drilling a 1-1/8” hole in the sheetrock and using the retriever unit to guide the magnet through the hole.
