Davy Russell emerged triumphant following a bitter campaign which saw Reform UK accused of racism following a row over its online attack ads. The Labour candidate - the only one to live in the South Lanarkshire constituency - was also widely ridiculed by his opponents after he declined to take part in an STV debate ahead of polling day. Anas Sarwar hailed the 'incredible' Hamilton by-election victory and says Scots have 'had enough' of the SNP as win win gives the Scottish Labour leader new hope of becoming First Minister after next year’s Scottish Parliament election. Bookmakers were offering odds of 11/1 of a Labour victory with pollsters widely predicting the SNP would hold a seat it won at the last Holyrood election in 2021.
