Swipe right to see the surgery in progress. ** A Morel-Lavallée lesion is a type of soft tissue injury that can occur after a high-velocity trauma, such as a fall from a height or a car accident. It is characterized by a collection of blood and fluid between the skin and underlying muscle. This collection can cause pain, swelling, and bruising in the affected area. In some cases, a Morel-Lavallée lesion may heal on its own. However, if the lesion is large or causing significant pain, it may need to be surgically removed. This procedure involves making an incision in the skin and removing the entire capsule of blood and fluid. If you have suffered a high-velocity trauma and are experiencing pain, swelling, or bruising in the affected area, call our board-certified Plastic Surgeon to rule out a Morel-Lavallée lesion. Early diagnosis and treatment can help to prevent complications and improve your recovery.
