Location : Balaton Lake, Lavender field & Tihany, Hungary 🇭🇺 The first lavender field in Tihany was planted in 1926 by Gyula Bittera, a Hungarian expert of medical herbs, on a parcel rented from the nearby abbey. The farm is located at Kőröshegy, on the Dózsa György street, beside the Flekken Csárda, at the end of a gravel road. The lavender normally starts to bloom towards the middle to end of June and the peak time is July and August. During the peak of the season it can get very busy on weekends so we recommend that you plan a weekday visit if possible. The best time of day to harvest lavender is in the morning after the dew has dried but before the heat of the sun has drawn out too much of the fragrant essential oils that the lavender plant is so well-known for. Lake Balaton, largest lake of central Europe, located in central Hungary about 50 miles (80 km) southwest of Budapest. It has an area of 231 square miles (598 square km) and extends for 48 miles (77 km) along the southern foothills of the Bakony Mountains of Hungary. Lake Balaton is a freshwater lake in western Hungary. One of the best places to visit in Hungary. Tihany stands out as the most beautiful town on Lake Balaton. With its charming architecture, lush landscapes, and rich history, it's no wonder that this quaint village has continued to captivate the hearts of locals and tourists alike. One of the most interesting phenomena of Tihany is the famous echo, which has been heard since the 18th century, when the present building of the Tihany Abbey was built. On the Echo hill stands a stone pillar, known only as “the echo”.
