There are few measurements in field geology as difficult to master as using a Brunton Pocket Transit compass to measure a bearing. Developing the technique needed to keep a compass body horizontal while lining up your target, the slot in the sighting arm, and the centerline in the mirrored lid will take a bit of practice, but it is definitely time well spent.
