Get ready for Goa’s 4 Best Monsoon Festivals 2024 | GT Goa Guides | Gomantak Times

Watch this video to discover Goa's top monsoon festivals that offer a glimpse into local life. 1. Sao Joao Sao Joao, Goa's vibrant monsoon festival, captures the true spirit of the State. Celebrated on June 24, this unique event sees locals joyfully jumping into wells, a tradition that celebrates the feast of St John the Baptist. Lively celebrations with traditional music, dances and delicious food take centre stage, particularly in Siolim (North Goa) and places like Benaulim in South Goa. Feni flows freely, and exchanging gifts of fruits and flowers adds to the joyous spirit. 2. Sangodd The feast of saints, Peter and Paul, popularly known as 'sangodd' in Goa, takes place five days after Sao Joao. In Goa, St Peter is the patron of the fisherfolk community. The feast is celebrated in a grand manner, especially in Orda-Candolim, Siolim, Ribandar, Agassaim and Assolna, to name a few places. Unlike Sao Joao's well-jumping, Sangodd features a unique spectacle - a temporary stage built on several canoes tied together. This 'floating stage' becomes a platform for prayers, traditional performances, and celebrations. 3. Chikal Kalo: In the month of July, the villagers of Marcel host a unique yet interesting festival called 'Chikal Kalo.' This festival celebrates the playfulness of Lord Krishna by playing in the mud. This playfulness is also akin to paying obeisance to Mother Earth. 4. Bonderam: The quaint and beautiful island of Goa, Divar, comes to life during Bonderam, which does not take place only once but twice, as two different villages of Divar Island have their respective Bonderam. If you happen to be in Goa in August, witness Bonderam for sure. Subscribe now for more travel inspiration and unforgettable experiences in Goa. . . .
